Dr. Shirley Ayuk-Takem (Class of 1995) at her residency graduation on Saturday June 6 2015, in internal medicine. (U.S.)
Today, JUNE 30th, is Dr. Shirley Ayuk-Takem's birthday but on this 2017 version of the day, she has more than just her "birth and good health" to celebrate and really be THANKFUL for. Here's her story: Dr. Ayuk-Takem graduated from the University of Alabama with a BS in Respiratory therapy and this teacher who still sees parents turn cartwheels at their son/daughter's HIGH SCHOOL graduation knows that just that achievement, is already a HUGE DEAL. Gaining inspiration from her dad, however, Shirley had made a promise to both her parents, as a teenager, that she would one day be called "Dr. Ayuk-Takem" - like her dad and make them proud. So, after working as a Respiratory Therapist for a few years, she applied to medical school, and got accepted into 5 OF THEM! Sadly, her excitement was dealt a big blow when her mom passed away on July 1st, just a little over a month before she started medical school. That tragedy did not, however, stop Shirley from keeping her promise to her parents. Dealing with the death of her dear mom while going through the rigorous medical school curriculum was no easy feat, but Shirley remained resolute in keeping her promise, and graduated from medical school - with honors!
As fate would have it, Shirley received another devastating blow when her dad too died, barely 6 months into her residency program in Internal Medicine. She still was not deterred and kept on going, determined, more than ever, to keep her promise to make her parents proud. She soldiered on, finished her residency in Internal Medicine and then went on to do a Fellowship in Critical Care, finishing that training as a Critical Care Physician 2 days ago - on June 28th , 2017, 2 days before her birthday and 3 days before the anniversary of her Mom's death, which is tomorrow, July 1st.
SO, Today, despite all the trials and tribulations in her life, Dr. Shirley Ayuk-Takem is a Registered Respiratory Therapist, a Board Certified Internist and a Critical Care Physician. She has defied the odds, kept her teenage promise, and stayed true to her dreams. She is indeed, an amazing woman; One her entire family is extremely proud of, particularly her only Sister/Mom figure, Mrs. Laura AyukTakem Fote - a SAKERETTE herself, her brother-in-law ( SOBAN CAT) Dr. Bertrand Fote (a renowned Physician in his own right) who helped mentor her through fellowship program, her brothers, and also her aunt, Ms Rose Bate Eya who has been a constant and reassuring presence in her life over the years.
What's left to do or say but CONGRATULATE her heartily for her ACADEMIC achievement, applaud her for Courage, Determination and Persistence, Wish her a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY and, above all else, THANK THE ONE FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW????
AND IF I SHOULD ADD "BESONGABANG, OYAAAAAAAAAY", WOULD THAT BE INAPPROPRIATE??? I, FOR ONE DO NOT SEE HOW OR WHY!!!!!!!!!
Well then, here's an Important & Glorious UPDATE to the story:
AS OF YESTERDAY, NOVEMBER 13 2017, this is her STATUS:

CONGRATULATIONS, MADAM PROFESSOR OF EPIDEMIOLOGY @ THE SCHOOL OF HEALTH SYSTEMS & PUBLIC HEALTH, UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA - SOUTH AFRICA
CLASS OF 1969 "MAJOR", Dr. STELLA CHINWE NWIGWE ANYANGWE
Yet another "RED FEATHER" has been added to Class of 1969's Dr. STELLA CHINWE NWIGWE ANYANGWE's cap with her acceptance, on Tuesday November 6th 2014, of an appointment as Professor of Epidemiology at the School of Health Systems and Public Health of the University of Pretoria! Being the first ever Honorary Professorship that the Faculty of Health Sciences of UP has given , it took the institution almost a year to request and obtain recommendations, references and testimonies about Dr. Anyangwe's work from referees the world over, (among whom were our very own distinguished Cameroonian Professors Rose Leke and Georges Ekosse), and within WHO, before the decision was made. In this position, she will teach and train graduate students in Epidemiology and Global Health, and supervise research and theses. She will also spear-head the pilot basic training course in Disaster Risk Management, the area of work that she coordinated as her last assignment with the World Health Organization. The "ICING ON THE CAKE" is the definitely the fact that her contract is flexible enough to allow her self-styled "retired-but-not-tired" mind and body to do whatever and go wherever they'd like to go! And, by the way, did I ever mention that she is the President of ROTARY CLUB, PRETORIA WEST??? The feathers are really fighting for space on this highly accomplished woman's cap, for real, and we couldn't be any Prouder or Happier!
CONGRATULATIONS ARE ONCE MORE IN ORDER FOR CLASS OF '69 MAJOR PROFESSOR STELLA CHINWE NWIGWE ANYANGWE, upon her election as DIRECTOR FOR THE AFRICA REGION on the World Association For Disaster And Emergency Medicine (WADEM) BOARD
Prof Stella Anyangwe, an Honorary Professor in Epidemiology at the School of Health Systems and Public Health at the University of Pretoria (UP), has been elected as Director for the Africa Region on the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) Board. Class of 1968's FRIDA EPOSI KALE cooking up a storm in S.B.C.'s COOKERY LAB, back in 1968!! (Little did she know!) Professor JULIUS ESUNGE & Family Professor JULIUS ESUNGE
“MATH WIZ”, Dr. JULIUS ESUNGE, Mathematics Professor at the University of Mary Washington (UMW) in the State of Virginia has joined the ranks of the elite group of human beings who have distinguished themselves by earning the prestigious FULBRIGHT GRANT! YES, I am talking about the same FULBRIGHT PROGRAM that has produced 53 NOBEL PRIZE WINNERS, 80 PULITZER PRIZE RECIPIENTS and at least 30 HEADS OF GOVERNMENT around the world! What makes the humble, unobtrusive, even self-effacing Professor's distinction even more heartwarming, is the fact that he has been selected to receive the prestigious 2015-2016 Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant, TO TEACH & CONDUCT RESEARCH at his Alma Mater, the UNIVERSITY OF BUEA (as in "UB; THE PLACE TO BE"), beginning in the spring of 2016!!! Now, here's the CHERRY ATOP THIS DELIGHTFUL CAKE for us SAKERETTES: This LEARNÈD GENTLEMAN, (and I use both terms very advisedly), who is as amazing a PREACHER OF GOD'S WORD as he is a MATHEMATICIAN - if not better, is both A "CARAT" AND A "CAT"!!! Here are his "CREDENTIALS": He is - The SON of CLASS OF 1968's STUDENT #109, Aunty FRIDA EPOSI KALE, - The HUSBAND of CLASS OF 1995's EUNICE ESUNGE nee AKUM, - The NEPHEW of CLASS OF 1966 PIONEER Late HANNAH JOSO KALE, and - The COUSIN of THE SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE BAND Founder and Instructor, Mr. LUMA ELIVE NGALE. Now, if ALL OF THIS is not good enough cause for some "bettah Chest Knacking" for us SAKERETTES, then I don't know what is!!! And by the way, you do not have to take my word for it! Read the whole FULBRIGHT GRANT story for your own self as posted on the University of Mary Washington's Website at:

Well then, watch the Video Below and see just what that looks like in concrete terms! As for Sister Jacky's "MOVES" and "ACCOUTREMENT", they sure make Whoopi Goldberg, in all her "SISTER ACT" splendor, look like a joke! (LOL) OBOSO, My Dear!

Today is Tuesday November 4th 2014. November 4th 1969 also fell on a Tuesday and on that day, 45 good years ago now, the CAMEROON COLLEGE SINGERS performed in Sacramento, California. That was just 1 of 85 stellar performances by the Trail-Blazing Group that spanned a 3 month period, from their Arrival in New York on September 3rd 1969 - via PAN AM, to their Departure on November 27th the same year! In that relatively short amount of time, the accomplishments of the 10 SAKERETTES and 9 BTTC SOPPO students who made up the group, were astonishingly IMPRESSIVE: - They were treated to a Reception in the home of Cameroon's Ambassador to the United States at the time - Mr. Joseph N. OWONO, with Dr. W.R. TOLBERT, Vice President of Liberia in attendance - They gave a half hour performance (on November 26th) for enthusiastic UNITED NATIONS Delegates at the U.N.'s Dag Hammarskjold Auditorium in New York and were received by Cameroon's Ambassador to the UN, Mr. Michel NJINE - They performed, (on November 25th) at the ROTUNDA, wowing U.S. Senators who gave them a STANDING OVATION !This performance was followed by a luncheon in the CAPITOL . - They appeared on RADIO and TV SHOWS several times - including WTOP-TV's Daily Variety Show "HARAMBE" , (on November 25th), after which the station received 70 phone calls and 35 letters from its viewers, PRAISING their performance. - Their Tour was covered by reputable Media Institutions like THE WASHINGTON POST, VOICE OF AMERICA, TOPIC Magazine, and the UNITED STATES INFORMATION AGENCY - They sold 4,700 records and recorded a 22 minute 16 mm color Film ... ... and by the way, the Total Cost of the Tour was a "whopping" $32,306.99
They certainly did not just Cameroon but the Continent of AFRICA proud, and SAKERPRIDE SALUTES . All 19 "CHORISTER-AMBASSADORS " both living and departed, . The Group's Director, Principal DONALD E. WITT who is now 84 (which means he was only 39 when he trained and led the group), . Reverend SAMUEL LYSONGE , the group's Chaplain whose stirring 10 minute sermon in Buffalo, New York caused a member of the congregation to make the following remark: "Maybe for future Evangelistic Crusades we should call on our African brethren." . Reverend FRED and Mrs. DOROTHY HOLZIMMER , the Tour Managers, and . Mr. LLOYD TEMPLETON , the Bus Driver! Cannot end this posting without a TEARY-EYED SALUTE to the Late Mrs. RUTH WITT , (June 23 1938-March 7 2014), who painstakingly gathered and mailed practically all the AUTHENTIC material, (Photo Album included), which I have posted below and on the CAMEROON SINGERS page of this website. My Dear Paulyne, The reason I neither informed you that I had stumbled upon this VOA article nor told you I was going to "SakerPride" it, would be glaringly obvious to anyone who knows you and your SELFLESS, MODEST, personality: You would have tried to dissuade me! You would have said one of those your "This is not about me" things, and then I would have had to "waste precious time" trying to explain to you that I "get that" BUT, cannot help admiring, commending and publicly recognizing you for doing what VERY FEW would ever do: WALK , EYES WIDE OPEN, INTO A HIGHLY RISKY & LETHAL SITUATION, TO SAVE THE LIVES OF PEOPLE THEY DO NOT EVEN KNOW!!!!!!!!! Look, my dear! When I heard you were heading off to Guinea for this "badluck" trip, I assumed you had been "forcefully deployed" out there, only for me to learn that you VOLUNTEERED to go???!!!! GUUUUURL! WHO DOES THAT?? What Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister ... who is as cherished as you are - takes on such a daunting task??? Clearly, Only one whose heart is in the right place; one who is capable of dying to self enough to put "The Good of Mankind" ahead of her own safety & comfort; one who understands the peculiar MISSION that their Creator sent them to this earth to accomplish. And then WHO, having done ALL this, comes back and only says a quiet "I am back safely; Thank you for your prayers" instead of flooding Facebook with posts, out-tweeting Twitter, and snap-chatting their very soul away? You are something, Ms Ngalame-Ntuba. REALLY!! God Bless You!!

"As for the lovely Sakerettes? OMG! I even taught there a while ago with Miss Binder, Mr. William Tayui, Bodylawson, etc. Our sincere thanks also go especially to Mrs. Miranda Kwame and husband for the wonderful participation. She also doubled as our Co-MC and we all know the success or failure of any event depends on the MCs and they did a wonderful job with Mola Lambe (President Molua Lambe). We owe a lot to them. The Sakerettes also made sure the food was of top class and not only cooked and provided, also stood around to make sure everybody was served delicious African dishes. They even did a wonderful presentation that put the crowd dancing for a long time."

CLASS OF 1973 SAKERETTE PROFESSOR DORA SHU MBANYA MD; PhD; FRCPath (Student #511) APPOINTED VICE DEAN OF STUDIES AT THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE & BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES, UNIVERSITY OF YAOUNDE I
We are ELATED to announce the recent appointment of Class of 1973's Professor Dora SHU Mbanya to the position of Vice Dean in Charge of Studies in the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Yaounde, the nation's oldest School of Medicine fondly remembered as CUSS. Dr. Dora Shu Mbanya who is, herself, a 1982 graduate of the University Center for Health Sciences (CUSS) also has a PhD in Haematology from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in the U.K. (1990)
HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS, Big Sis, for this well-deserved and long overdue "nod"!!!
Hardly ever has the French saying "Jamais Deux (2) Sans Trois (3)" made such (positive) sense than now that, on the heels of the appointments of Dr. Nalova Endeley and Professor Dora Shu Mbanya (featured above), CLASS OF 1987's Dr. Lucy Ayamba Ndip , a seasoned Medical Microbiologist with special interest on emerging infectious diseases has now been appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor for Internal Control & Evaluation at The University of Buea!
CLASS OF 1988 SAKERETTE VICTORINE M. KARNGONG (Student #1938) APPOINTED REGIONAL STUDY ENGINEER FOR PETROLEUM PRODUCTS FOR THE SOUTHWEST REGION
After her studies at the University of Buea, Victorine Karngong went on to ENS Yaounde where she studied Chemistry, graduating as the first girl and fourth student overall in her batch. She started off as a chemistry teacher, and her last post of responsibility was Head of the Chemistry Department Lycée Bilingue de Bafia. She was subsequently transferred to Lycée de Biyemassi but being unable to teach chemistry in French she wound up in the school’s Library, a position she did not quite cherish. Fortunately, a M(Eng), University of Padua sponsored course was launched by the NASPW (National Advanced School of Public Works), which comprised a scholarship by the EU to train 500 water engineers in Cameroon after the cholera epidemic which killed thousands of Cameroonians. She therefore earned her Master’s in Engineering and moved from the Ministry of Secondary Education to the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy last year (2015). When ExSSA-YAOUNDE sent her off in July (see pictures below), she was heading off to work as Chief of Service for General Affairs and Statistics for Fako Division. Well, this past Tuesday, 2nd of February 2016, the 8 pm news made it known that she had been appointed Regional Study Engineer for Petroleum Products for the South West Region, with office at Down Beach Limbe!!!! Are we ELATED or what???? CONGRATULATIONS, Dear Victorine and GODSPEED!
