GRAD with Parents and SAKERETTE Aunty, Eleanor Ndongong Ghangha The GRAD with Proud Parents, Dr. & Mrs. WAINDIM #2

Dr. Shirley Ayuk-Takem (Class of 1995) at her residency graduation on Saturday June 6 2015, in internal medicine. (U.S.)

Today, JUNE 30th, is Dr. Shirley Ayuk-Takem's birthday but on this 2017 version of the day, she has more than just her "birth and good health" to celebrate and really be THANKFUL for. Here's her story: Dr. Ayuk-Takem graduated from the University of Alabama with a BS in Respiratory therapy and this teacher who still sees parents turn cartwheels at their son/daughter's HIGH SCHOOL graduation knows that just that achievement, is already a HUGE DEAL.  Gaining inspiration from her dad, however, Shirley had made a promise to both her parents, as a teenager, that she would one day be called "Dr. Ayuk-Takem" - like her dad and make them proud. So, after working as a Respiratory Therapist for a few years, she applied to medical school, and got accepted into 5 OF THEM!  Sadly, her excitement was dealt a big blow when her mom passed away on July 1st, just a little over a month before she started medical school.  That tragedy did not, however, stop Shirley from keeping her promise to her parents. Dealing with the death of her dear mom while going through the rigorous medical school curriculum was no easy feat, but Shirley remained resolute in keeping her promise, and graduated from medical school - with honors!

As fate would have it, Shirley received another devastating blow when her dad too died, barely 6 months into her residency program in Internal Medicine. She still was not deterred and kept on going, determined, more than ever, to keep her promise to make her parents proud. She soldiered on, finished her residency in Internal Medicine and then went on to do a Fellowship in Critical Care, finishing that training as a Critical Care Physician 2 days ago - on June 28th , 2017,  2 days before her birthday and 3 days before the anniversary of her Mom's death, which is tomorrow, July 1st.

SO, Today, despite all the trials and tribulations in her life,  Dr. Shirley Ayuk-Takem is a Registered Respiratory Therapist, a Board Certified Internist and a Critical Care Physician.  She has defied the odds, kept her teenage promise, and stayed true to her dreams. She is indeed, an amazing woman; One her entire family is extremely proud of, particularly her only Sister/Mom figure, Mrs. Laura AyukTakem Fote - a SAKERETTE herself, her brother-in-law ( SOBAN CAT) Dr. Bertrand Fote (a renowned Physician in his own right) who helped mentor her through fellowship program, her brothers, and also her aunt, Ms Rose Bate Eya who has been a constant and reassuring presence in her life over the years.

What's left to do or say but CONGRATULATE her heartily for her ACADEMIC achievement, applaud her for Courage, Determination and Persistence, Wish her a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY and, above all else, THANK THE ONE FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW????

AND IF I SHOULD ADD "BESONGABANG, OYAAAAAAAAAY", WOULD THAT BE INAPPROPRIATE??? I, FOR ONE DO NOT SEE HOW OR WHY!!!!!!!!!

CONAKRY, GUINEA—

Fear about Ebola can be as lethal as the virus itself.

In mid-September, eight people on an Ebola-awareness team – including health workers, local officials and journalists – were killed, their machete-scarred bodies found in a septic tank in a southeast Guinean village.

Days later, in the Guinean town of Forecariah, relatives of an Ebola victim attacked and injured at least two Red Cross workers they believed were mishandling the woman's corpse.

It’s Paulyne Ngalame Ntuba’s job, as a communications and community engagement specialist for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to clear up misunderstandings that breed such fear.

The Cameroon native, 39, usually focuses on HIV/AIDS prevention back at the agency’s headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. But she went to a brown-bag lunch for employees of African descent and heard an appeal to help her Ebola-stricken home region.

"I responded before I became scared," she said. Weeks later, she landed in Guinea for a 30-day detail.

PLEASE CLICK ON LINK BELOW TO READ THE ENTIRE STORY ... It’s difficult to avoid hearing or reading about Ebola. It has become equally difficult to avoid feeling nervous about the deadly virus as its outbreak continues to kill thousands of men and women in West Africa. It has even resulted in a death in America. Thomas Erin Duncan returned from Liberia and was admitted into Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on Sept. 30. The virus took his life eight days later. The fear is real, and Paulyne Ngalame Ntuba understands that is human nature. But she also wants people to know the truth about the virus and clear up any misunderstandings. Ngalame Ntuba, 39, spoke at the home of Avery and Mary Lynn White in Bainbridge Saturday about her experience with the virus. She has spent the past 14 years as a communications and community engagement specialist for the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, focusing primarily on HIV/AIDS at the Atlanta headquarters. But when asked to travel to Guinea for 30 days to spread awareness and educate citizens on Ebola, she said yes. Looking back, the Cameroon native wonders what pushed her to agree to visiting ground zero for virus’ most recent outbreak. “I describe it as the fear part of my brain got deactivated,” Ngalame Ntuba said. “And I’m not a reckless person, but I prayed about it because I just felt this was what I should do.” PLEASE CLICK ON LINK BELOW TO READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE IN "THE POST-SEARCHLIGHT"

My Dear Paulyne, The reason I neither informed you that I had stumbled upon this VOA article nor told you I was going to "SakerPride" it, would be glaringly obvious to anyone who knows you and your SELFLESS, MODEST, personality: You would have tried to dissuade me! You would have said one of those your "This is not about me" things, and then I would have had to "waste precious time" trying to explain to you that I "get that" BUT, cannot help admiring, commending and publicly recognizing you for doing what VERY FEW would ever do: WALK , EYES WIDE OPEN, INTO A HIGHLY RISKY & LETHAL SITUATION, TO SAVE THE LIVES OF PEOPLE THEY DO NOT EVEN KNOW!!!!!!!!!  Look, my dear! When I heard you were heading off to Guinea for this "badluck" trip, I assumed you had been "forcefully deployed" out there, only for me to learn that you VOLUNTEERED to go???!!!! GUUUUURL! WHO DOES THAT?? What Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister ... who is as cherished as you are - takes on such a daunting task??? Clearly, Only one whose heart is in the right place; one who is capable of dying to self enough to put "The Good of Mankind" ahead of her own safety & comfort; one who understands the peculiar MISSION that their Creator sent them to this earth to accomplish. And then WHO, having done ALL this, comes back and only says a quiet "I am back safely; Thank you for your prayers" instead of flooding Facebook with posts, out-tweeting Twitter, and snap-chatting their very soul away? You are something, Ms Ngalame-Ntuba. REALLY!!                                                            God Bless You!!

VICTIM-OFFENDER PRISON CARE SUPPORT PROGRAM (VOPS) http://vopsst.org/ In shedding light on the kind of person who would be warmly welcomed into The Kingdom of Heaven, Jesus Christ, in MATTHEW 25:36, made the following statement: "I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." Well then, watch the Video Below and see just what that looks like in concrete terms! As for Sister Jacky's "MOVES" and "ACCOUTREMENT", they sure make Whoopi Goldberg, in all her "SISTER ACT" splendor, look like a joke! (LOL) OBOSO, My Dear!

"As for the lovely Sakerettes? OMG! I even taught there a while ago with Miss Binder, Mr. William Tayui, Bodylawson, etc. Our sincere thanks also go especially to Mrs. Miranda Kwame and husband for the wonderful participation. She also doubled as our Co-MC and we all know the success or failure of any event depends on the MCs and they did a wonderful job with Mola Lambe (President Molua Lambe). We owe a lot to them. The Sakerettes also made sure the food was of top class and not only cooked and provided, also stood around to make sure everybody was served delicious African dishes. They even did a wonderful presentation that put the crowd dancing for a long time."

Hardly ever has the French saying "Jamais Deux (2) Sans Trois (3)" made such (positive) sense than now that, on the heels of the appointments of Dr. Nalova Endeley and Professor Dora Shu Mbanya (featured above),  CLASS OF 1987's Dr. Lucy Ayamba Ndip , a seasoned Medical Microbiologist with special interest on emerging infectious diseases has now been appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor for Internal Control & Evaluation at The University of Buea!

CLASS OF 1988 SAKERETTE VICTORINE M. KARNGONG (Student #1938) APPOINTED REGIONAL STUDY ENGINEER FOR PETROLEUM PRODUCTS FOR THE SOUTHWEST REGION

After her studies at the University of Buea, Victorine Karngong went on to ENS Yaounde where she studied Chemistry, graduating as the first girl and fourth student overall in her batch. She started off as a chemistry teacher, and her last post of responsibility was Head of the Chemistry Department Lycée Bilingue de Bafia. She was subsequently transferred to Lycée de Biyemassi but being unable to teach chemistry in French she wound up in the school’s Library, a position she did not quite cherish. Fortunately, a M(Eng), University of Padua sponsored course was launched by the NASPW (National Advanced School of Public Works), which comprised a scholarship by the EU to train 500 water engineers in Cameroon after the cholera epidemic which killed thousands of Cameroonians. She therefore earned her Master’s in Engineering and moved from the Ministry of Secondary Education to the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy last year (2015). When ExSSA-YAOUNDE sent her off in July (see pictures below), she was heading off to work as Chief of Service for General Affairs and Statistics for Fako Division.  Well, this past Tuesday, 2nd of February 2016, the 8 pm news made it known that she had been appointed Regional Study Engineer for Petroleum Products for the South West Region, with office at Down Beach Limbe!!!!  Are we ELATED or what???? CONGRATULATIONS, Dear Victorine and GODSPEED!

WEDDING BELLS IN MADRID!! CLASS OF 1990's MARTHA NGOMBE WEDS CAT RAIMUNDO GARCIA (Saturday, June 9 2018)

The main setting was ALL SAINTS CHURCH in Boadilla del Monte, Madrid, and the date was the 9th of June 2018.  A remarkable number of CLASS OF 1990 "WINNERS",  - Mantina Njie Ntuba, Jayne Agbor, Playne Agbor Ebai, Esther Njui, Esther Achuo Nkwanyuo (from Britain), Eveline Tumenta Bell (from Germany), Bessem Ebai Ngassa, Constance Asoh Ndi, Genevieve Takusi Makia, Ambit Atanga (from USA), Tahirih Atem Ebako (from within Spain),  flew in to witness the wedding of their classmate, MARTHA LIKOWE NGOMBE to her beloved CAT, Señor RAIMUNDO GARCÌA As Martha herself says: "They made my day a memorable one. They accompanied my husband singing and dancing Bakweri/Douala songs. They left a mark that day." Must say, based on the 64 professional and amateur pictures I have laid my eyes on, that they did in fact make their presence felt and looked darn FLY doing so!  Those pictures ALL do an EXCELLENT, IMPECCABLE job of depicting the JOY that filled the atmosphere, but I do have a peculiar favorite. It's an "Uncommon" choice because it is NOT a picture of the Bride & Groom, but one that shows THE MOTHER-OF-THE-BRIDE dancing away in her KABA, sheer ECSTASY written all over her face, unadulterated MUNYENGE oozing out of her every pore!!

Dr. Matilda Ngwe Asong Dr. Loretta Somo Ikome Dr. Loretta Ikome  (Class of 1987) graduated from the university of Pretoria on 12th of April. Her thesis titled USING AFAAN OROMOO AS LANGUAGE OF AND TEACHING IN ADDIS ABABA; POLICY, PROBLEMS AND STRATEGIES investigates the challenges learners who speak only AFAAN OROMOO face using AMHARIC as the only language of learning and teaching in Addis Ababa. It further examines the different teaching strategies used by teachers in multilingual classes in Addis Ababa. The thesis highlights the role mother tongue/first language in education and contributes to the area of inclusive education in primary schools.

Dr. Matilda Ngwe Azong  graduated on the 16th of May 2019 with a PhD in Environmental Management. The title of her thesis is 'Gender and vulnerability to climate change in the Bamenda Highlands Region, the Republic of Cameroon'. Her thesis investigated the disparities in female and male farmers' vulnerabilities to climate change and found out that vulnerability is a social process which develops over time. The study was conducted in Oku and Belo-Kom. She graduated from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.

HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM BOTH!!! By the way, this brings the number of SAKERETTE PhDs in South Africa to 3 ... in the last 12 Months!!!!

FLYING THE SAKER FLAG FIRMAMENT HIGH IN TANZANIA!!!

Her name is Yvette L. Ayahmoh Mengot. She enrolled in SAKER BAPTIST COLLEGE as STUDENT #4959 in September of 2001. I am not sure what her aspirations were back then, but I am pretty sure that no matter how lofty they may have been, they are very unlikely to have surpassed what she achieved 2 days ago - on Wednesday, May 29th 2019, when she graduated with a Masters in psychology from the University of Dar Es Salaam at top of her class, with first class honors, with a 4.6 GPA.

Any surprise that this overall 2019 Best Graduating Student has been selected to represent at the Julius Nyerere Pan African Conference this year which will be taking place in Arusha Tanzania? Certainly NOT!!!

Wondering what her future plans are? She's enrolling for a PhD and that is NO SURPRISE at all! Not for this youngest daughter of the LEGENDARY CHIEF A.D. MENGOT (God rest his ERUDITE soul!!) whose accomplishments in the field of ACADEMICS are quite unparalleled!

KUDOS, YVETTE!!! KEEP SOARING

Yvette L. Ayahmoh Mengot MORE GRADUATION GLAD TIDINGS FROM AROUND THE WORLD, ON THE WAY!!!
