SakerPride - "Telling the Saker Story & MORE"

IN

FROM GREENLAND'S ICY MOUNTAINS Song written in 1819 by Reginald Heber, which served as a model for the Saker Anthem.  Please Click Below To Listen To Tune. 1 Beyond the Buea Mountain, From West Coast earthquake strand, Where Cam'roon's sunny fountains Lay down their golden sand; Along Victoria's Ambas Beach Is found the Saker College Where girls who seek for knowledge Are all striving to reach.

2 On the twenty-ninth of January In nineteen sixty-two Thirty six Cam'roon youngsters Were laid to Saker Hill Their nervous trepidation Became a joyful thrill In the hearts of these first comers A joy that warms them still.

3 The Baptist Girls' Secondary School Was the first name for our school The West Cam'roon Christian College Was the name that followed next. Today Saker Baptist College  Is the name our college bears For God's word to our Cameroon Alfred Saker strove to bear.

4 Geography and math'matics  Are subjects we employ Domestic Science and physics Are others we enjoy English language and history Music to praise the Lord, Literature, Bible Chemistry French Language for abroad.

5 With the power of God's Almighty Hand We try to face the world For Unity and Sisterhood We Saker students strive, Be we coastal, midland, upland We Saker girls are one With the help of tutors true we'll thrive, And the battle will be won.

Salvation O salvation, S.B.C. girls proclaim, For in our jubilation, no tribal rights disclaim.

At the request of Dr.  STELLA NWIGWE ANYANGW E on behalf of ExSSA-SOUTH AFRICA for which she is the very much cherished ADVISER, Pioneer Sakerette and first President of EXSSA CAMEROON, Sis  PLAYNE FUONDJING  sent her THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF THE SAKER SCHOOL SONG posted below, which she obtained from the author of the song herself  Sis GRACE SAMA NGALIM  of ExSSA-BAMENDA.

Says Dr. STELLA ANYANGWE in a note to her Chapter: "I have been a member of several Chapters of our Association, and it has pained me, to no end, to hear our school song sung wrongly, and with utter glee! I hope our President-General will distribute this original version, with its correct solfa notation, to all chapters worldwide, so that we all can henceforth sing the correct version of our anthem! EXSSA-SA secretary, kindly forward the song to all our members, and we will start re-learning/un-learning the anthem during our meeting on Sunday. We will have to sing the correct version at our official launch in November.

Warmly Sis/Aunty Stella

... CAN I GET AN AMEN???!!!

Today, March 13 2014 marks exactly 52 years since H.E. Ahmadou Ahidjo - then President of the Federal Republic of Cameroon, visited the United States. The video above is already posted on the YESTERYEAR page of this website and I don't think I would have made any "fuss" about this whole "ANNIVERSARY", had I not stumbled upon the PRICELESS documents related to and surrounding the momentous event which are now part of the  JFK LIBRARY ARCHIVES !!!! It is obvious from the sheer VOLUME of the documents and the meticulous DETAILS - from who got to sit in which car, how to pronounce their names, and what formalities and DIET RESTRICTIONS were to be observed, to the BIOGRAPHIES of ALL the members of the Cameroonian Delegation! In fact, even a detail like "THE PRESIDENT SMOKES CIGARETTES" is included!!! From these documents, (which I am not even halfway done perusing, I have sure learned A LOT about the Political and Economic "landscape" of CAMEROON at the time, and about the "MAJOR PLAYERS" on the political scene back then. Chances are, you will to!

Class of '70  FRONT ROW: Miss Kern, Sis Catherine Molulu (now Fominyen), ??, Dr. Norman W. Haupt, Sis Justine Chinda (now Chungong-Ayafor), Sis Lilian Tendo (Now Dr. Wambua), Miss ??
