It is with an overwhelming sense of sadness that the news of the demise of ExSSA-USA's Very First and Longest-Serving Chief Whip was received yesterday, Sunday May 10 2015, which was MOTHER'S DAY! Some of us got the news via the following post that her daughter, Class of 1988's Rosemary Ngong Kiffa put up on Facebook early in the morning:

"I love you mom. My best friend, my sister and my daughter at the same time.  You told me everything was fine and that you were ready, because you know the Lord. I saw you take your last breath this morning 5/10/15 @ 03:28. Rest in HIS comfort. Father Lord take good care of her in heaven. Please have her at your right hand side where my grandmother is. My heart is broken but your spirit will make me strong. Love you mom."

Hardly ever have The Apostle Paul's Words in Philippians 1:21 rung truer, than for Mrs. CHRISTIANA CHOP NGONG:

(New Living Translation) GOOD NIGHT, DEDICATED SAKERETTE! WE SALUTE YOU FOR YOUR VALIANT SERVICE! SEE YOU IN THE MORNING!

PLEASE CLICK ON IMAGE ABOVE TO VIEW A FEW PICTURES TAKEN AT THE WAKE (06/12/15) OUR CLAD-IN-PURPLE, "OPEN TEETH"-ENDOWED, BESPECTACLED ANGELS,  ALL OF WHOM RESTED IN THE ARMS OF ExSSA-HOUSTON. REST ON IN PEACE! COURAGE, ExSSA-HOUSTON!

I hope you are not too weary to respond the way your now “fallen asleep” Mammy Ngong taught you to answer that greeting:  “AH VOU WÉ WÉ!”

My Dear, ExSSA-HOUSTON Sisters, ALL of us SAKERETTES; ALL of us, Members of ExSSA-USA are grief stricken over the passing of one of ours, BUT you are hit much more directly, because she was one of yours first!

Consequently, you do not even have the “luxury” of just grieving silently, or just sending in “contributions” because, as the HOSTESSES of the ceremonies that are being organized to send our Mother, Aunty, Sister and Friend home, you have to take care of the “LOGISTICS” as well, holding countless meetings lasting well into the night (2 a.m. Massa!) to try and figure out:

- How to Lodge and Feed your Sakerette Sisters who will be arriving from out of town; - How to decorate the various venues were “mourners” will congregate; - How many trays of “boiling grahnut” per table you should have, etc.

And then, to compound it all, this is the THIRD TIME IN OUR ASSOCIATION’S HISTORY that we are having to handle sending a Member/Visiting Member of ExSSA Home to be laid to rest, and again, this the THIRD TIME that the “LABOR OF LOVE” has landed squarely on your (THANKFULLY) capable shoulders!

YOU LOVINGLY FULFILLED YOUR SISTERLY DUTIES IN 2010 FOR DEAR AUNTY  MAGDALENE BESSEM ENOH née NKONGHO  (Class of ’71), who abruptly passed on in there in Houston on Tuesday August 24 2010, after having a wonderful time with us at the ExSSA-USA Convention that had taken place just weeks before in … HOUSTON.  (FEATURED ON THE LEFT IN PICTURE COLLAGE ABOVE)

YOU DID THE SAME IN 2011, (THE VERY NEXT YEAR), FOR OUR BELOVED SISTER  ANNE CHCHI UKENYE LAWAL , (Class of 1975) who passed away on December 1st 2011 in Laredo, Texas, but whose HOME GOING Ceremonies took place in HOUSTON on January 6th & 7th 2012, just days before the GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS at SBC in Limbe on January 12th, the day she was laid to rest in her native Umuanaya, in Nigeria.  (FEATURED IN THE MIDDLE OF PICTURE COLLAGE ABOVE)

NOW, BAOBAB, AMAZON, PILLAR, CHRISTIANA CHOP NGONG (Class of 1967 – 2nd Batch) has fallen right within your own ranks, and, not only do you have your own grief over her demise to contend with, you have the task of also “BEING THERE” for her daughters – Rosemary & Prudence, who are your Chapter Members!  (FEATURED ON THE RIGHT OF PICTURE COLLAGE ABOVE)

It is for the afore-mentioned reasons, my dear ExSSA-HOUSTON Sisters, that I SALUTE & THANK YOU, and also pray that God grant you the Fortitude, the Wisdom and the Grace to accomplish the task before you this time, as brilliantly as you have (sadly) done in the past. May He also be merciful enough to spare YOU and US from these tearful, gut-wrenching “SEND OFFS” in which we are very UNwilling participants! WONA TIE HEART DASSOH OOO! ASHIA! Ma Sakerpride.

ExSSA-HOUSTON, (plus "back up" from their ALWAYS supportive neighbors, ExSSA-DALLAS), celebrating along with Late Aunty Christy Ngong at the THANKSGIVING ceremony held by her family in her honor not up to a year ago, on June 28 2014!

Please let me share one more thing that prompted this "SHOUT OUT" to ExSSA-Houston.  I happened to know from my sister about the plans mentioned in the email below so when she called at the time she was supposed to be "otherwise engaged" and NOT available, I asked what had happened to change her plans, and she simply forwarded me this email thread. (NOTE THE DATES considering that Aunty Christy passed away in the wee hours (3:28 a.m.) of Sunday May 10 2015):

From: "catherine manga [EXSSAHOUSTON]" To: EXSSAHOUSTON ; Exssa Houston Sent: Friday, May 8, 2015 10:56 AM Subject: [EXSSAHOUSTON]  TONIGHT'S VISIT WITH AUNTIE CHRIST Y

My dear Aunties and Sisters, I just discussed with Grace, Rosemary and Prudence, this morning in reference to our upcoming visit to Mami tonight; they however have pleaded to cancel that visit with us tonight. While Auntie Christy was happily looking forward to this visit, her health condition took turns for the worst. The family pleads to have this moment with Auntie Christy in private. On behalf of the family, I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please continue to uplift Auntie Christy and her family during this difficult time because all is possible with God. Blessings to all. Catherine.

So sorry to hear this! I pray it is not too serious and that she recovers quickly. Praying also for our sisters/caretakers Rosemay and Pru as they do their best to make her comfortable. Lord in your mercy, hear my prayer...

From: Egbe Monjimbo  Sent: Fri 5/08/15 2:29 PM To: Didi Ndando

Sounds really serious oh! Lord, in your Mercy!!!!!!!!!!!!

My take on this? I am all for us being a 501C Association that helps "The Girl Child" and "Reaches Out" to our Community and all the other "GOOD THINGS" BUT we are, FAR & ABOVE everything else a SISTERHOOD that professes "LOVE & UNITY" and when I see THAT on GLISTENING DISPLAY like I have witnessed with ExSSA-HOUSTON, the least I (Proud MAL Member notwithstanding) can do, is DOFF MY GELE to you, my ExSSA-HOUSTON Sisters in keeping with the DOUALA adage that states:  "Muna nyongo a buki te wa bambele mo konda";  Which in Kenyang I think is," "Mu anchawoh woh pockoh evah yi"; And in my beloved PIDGIN: "Man pass you; You carry yi bag"!

Now let me go find my 10 (not 7) "KATTAH" and do some serious "Bag Carrying" ... 'NOUGH SAID oh!

THE DEATH HAS BEEN REPORTED OF CATHERINE MOJOKO QUASHIE NTONIFOR CLASS OF 1986 SUNSET: Tuesday, August 30 2016

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing on to glory today, Tuesday August 30th 2016, of ExSSA-CAMEROON's VICE SECRETARY and vibrant MEMBER OF ExSSA-BUEA, Class of 1986's Mrs. CATHERINE NTONIFOR QUASHIE, who, quite recently, was "in the news" by virtue of her being the MOM of Class of 2016's Miss Monela Mah-Ngum NTONIFOR who came second at the G.C.E Ordinary Levels, with 11 Straight "A"s!

Wow, Cathy! Spoke to you on the 19th and 20th, and it was all about Monela being blessed with a Unique Birthday Gift since the GCE results came out on the eve of her Birthday, and how she would be heading back to S.B.C. for High School "next month"! Heard you had been sick and had to be rushed to the hospital on Sunday the 28th. Lots of us PRAYED & PRAYED & PRRRRRAYED ... but now you're gone - on the 30th!!! So, what about the 3 children - and their Dad (who turned out to be my classmate); whose pictures you forwarded, nicely labeled? The plan, (after posting the GCE SUCCESS STORY), was to add you and your sweetheart to the list of "SAKERETTES who wound up marrying SBC TUTORS" on the CONNECTIONS Page, NOT add YOU to the List of "ANGELS" on the IN-MEMORIAM Page!!!! I remember, distinctly, asking you how come you were not in the pictures of ExSSA-BUEA celebrating Monela! I also did not get why my suggestion that you and Monela just take and send a "selfie" instead of worrying yourself searching, was not an option ... WOW!!!! GO IN PEACE, MY DEAR!!! REST!!!!
