Thank you so much for the beautifully written tribute which choked me in laughter and tears as I went through house chores which on second thoughts have been influenced by Miss Kern in her role as house mother - scrubbing of my kitchen floor (reminds me of those Saturday dormitory inspections.). I still take pride in ensuring that my bed is well made every morning.(I remember those crease free bed sheets flat with envelope corners.). After all these years I still can't leave home with an unmade bed. What a woman! Again thank you Egbe for putting this together. May God continue to bless and use you as the bearer of his banner.
FROM: Irene Tamajong (London - U.K.) 3:43am Jun 12 Egbe, I got up very early to do some work before going to the office, and happened to check my email and noticed you had posted this recording of the celebration of Miss Kern's life! I simply could not peel myself away from the service! I have cried buckets; Rhonda read the tributes so passionately and beautifully; the effect on me was even greater hearing it though her emotions. I just want to say a Big THANK YOU for the thoughtful and APT words you put together for Miss Kern! I feel blessed to have gone to Saker, known Miss Kern and be a part of this wonderful group of special ladies called Sakerettes!!! Miss Kern certainly got her angelic wings as soon as she entered the gates of God's eternal 5 star hotel! CERTAINLY: "When we all get to heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, We’ll sing and shout the victory!" Wishing everyone the blessings of our Lord, Jesus! FROM: Kate Njome (California) Yes, Ma Sakerpride, aka "Egbi" as pronounced by Rhonda. "Let us then be true and faithful, trusting, serving everyday." You gave Ms. Kern, company, companionship, a chance to look back and enjoy her handiwork. PLEASE CLICK ON "SIGN IN" BUTTON TO THE RIGHT TO LEAVE A TRIBUTE, A MEMORY, OR A CONDOLENCE MESSAGE FOR THE BENEFIT OF HER FAMILY
The peaceful passing on to ETERNITY has just been announced of MISS EUNICE KERN, who served for years (intermittently, beginning in 1965), as TUTOR, HOUSEMOTHER, MUSIC TEACHER, CHRISTMAS & EASTER PLAY DIRECTOR, SONG BOOK PRODUCER and more at Saker Baptist College until she retired and returned to Canada in 1980. This is the simple note I just received from Ms Penny Carleton, Administrative Assistant at her Church: (Yes, this is the same dear Penny who helped me SURPRISE Miss Kern on her 81st Birthday back on May 13 2012 which coincided with Mothers Day that year! (SEE PHOTO ALBUM BELOW!!!)
Hello Egbe, I write today with very sad news. Our sister in Christ, Eunice Kern passed away peacefully this morning. She had been in hospital since May 29 and during the night last night, her organs began to fail.
Her brother Gene & his wife Elenor were with her this morning praying and singing her to Jesus, as she took her last breaths.
Her funeral will be Tuesday, June 9 2015 at 1 p.m. here at Leduc Fellowship Church. In His love, Penny Carleton
I cannot begin to explain how deeply grieved and saddened I am by this news, especially as it is all compounded by the fact that the Wake for Late Aunty Christy Chop Ngong is scheduled to start in a few hours, while the Wake for Late Sister Hannah Basame Molongwe is on right now in Yaounde!!!!! Unfortunately, with her Funeral Scheduled for TUESDAY, JUNE 9th 2015 - barely 4 days from today, I don't have the luxury of waiting to "digest" the news before I share it with you ALL, Dear SAKERETTES OF ALL GENERATIONS.
MAY HER DEAR SOUL REST IN PEACE, & MAY SHE BE WELL REWARDED FOR HER SERVICE TO S.B.C.

A FEW REACTIONS TO THE AUDIO RECORDING OF THE SERVICE POSTED ABOVE ... FROM: Mojoko Ewusi-Ngoh (Buea - Cameroon) Dear God I thank you this morning. Ma Saker Pride, your selflessness in keeping us connected in so many levels is immeasurable. I didn't think I could be brought to tears just by listening to a celebration of life audio....I wonder what it could have been like if Sakerettes were opportuned to be there. ...I listened as the goose flesh spread from my scalp to my toes and I cried with Rhonda. I don't know how God made it possible for me to attend Saker given the circumstances at the time....my five years in Saker remain the foundation and core of my existence and oh Miss Kern....is there a situation in my life where I will have not a song or a bible verse to tap to ...that will bring me solace.....I remember how eagerly myself and Elinge Musoko were eager to finally join the choir in form 3....how we huddled in little corners memorizing our lines. ..verses and verses of songs and songs. I glorify God for these teachings and for the life of Miss Kern who made this possible. Rest on Miss Kern. This is Victory. FROM: Monica Ebob Agbor-Jato (U.K) Aunty, that was one moving tribute you sent. Actually shed a tear. Wonderful service for God"s servant. . She was truely unique woman. Had to listen to the end because I couldn't stop it. Just so moving. 8:12am FROM: Ndeshi Hangula-Shikwambi (Windhoek - Namibia) Dear Sis Egbe, thank you a million times for bringing us Ms Kern's celebration of life through Saker Pride. After preparing my little ones and sending them off to school at 06H30, I went back under my bed covers (by the way it's winter time here and it's terribly cold sometimes zero to minus zero degree especially in the early mornings and night time) to listen to the service from beginning to end. What a beautiful service it was, I felt like I was physically present in their midst. I could literally visualize Ms Kern's niece as she read the tribute. Oh...mine....what a beautiful tribute you put together for Ms Kern? She read it so well and when she broke down.... I cried with her as I couldn't contain it. Yes Oh....as you mentioned in the tribute...I also felt that I lost my mother all over again...After that I sat on my bed and tried to chew on the beautiful sermon delivered during the service. When I read Dolly Lyonga's tribute to Ms Kern in the tribute section; it did not carry as much weight as when I heard it being said by Ms Kern's brother. I could vividly visualize Dolly walking up that hill with her mom to Ms Kern's house and as she approaches Ms Kern's house, that delicious cake baking aroma smothering out of Ms Kern's residence. You know, when he said she loved to cook, it dawned on me at that moment and I started reminiscing back to Saker days. I must confess that whenever I passed Ms Kern's house either from fetching water from Likumba or during lawn clearing I always walked like a snail just to inhale that delicious aroma of whatever was cooking in that house. When the service was over, the time was almost 07H45. I rushed to get ready for work and by the time I got to the office, it was 09H30. My boss asked me why I was late and I told him I was coming from a funeral service. He asked me who's funeral service it was and I told him it was my Music Teacher and Mentor Ms Kern, way back from my secondary school years in Cameroon. He asked where the service was held and I told him it was in Canada. The man was perplexed and thought I was going mad or something...he asked me whether I was okay and I said of course I was fine so I walked down to my office. After five minutes he came to my office and just stood at my door staring at me. I asked him if I could help him with anything. That's when he said he did not understand what I told him way back then, about attending a funeral service in Canada. I then ushered him to my desk and clicked in to Saker Pride and explained to him everything. I tell you Sis Egbe, he was so impressed and could not believe what he saw. He was full of praises of what he saw on Saker Pride, gave me a hug and told me "all is well", and I here was so, so relieved that I got off the hook for coming late to work. You know Sis Egbe during my first year in Canada (1988) I schooled in Alberta in a little town called Camrose (Camrose Lutheran College) before transferring to Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. Had I known Ms Kern was in Alberta then I should have looked out for her...but as they say, everything happens for a reason. Have a blessed day and may our Lord Almighty continue to bless you for the wonderful job you are doing to keep us informed of all the happenings/events and keeping us, well connected. I'll leave you with the song called "Meet Me There", which I earlier posted in Sakersongzzzzzzz... it's not one of Miss Kern's songs but because of the love of music that I inherited from her, I continue to sing and search for songs on the internet to teach my choir here in our church called "To God Be The Glory". Bye, my sister and my love to your family. From: Didi Ndando (Houston, Texas) Sent: Thu 6/11/15 9:45 PM To: Egbe Monjimbo
Listening now, but not sure if I'll do it all in one sitting...
From: Didi Ndando Sent: Thu 6/11/15 10:15 PM To: Egbe Monjimbo Still listening - her niece is reading your tribute now...oh she just broke down talking about you losing your mother all over again...--tear jerker indeed....
From: Eyere Takor (Limbe - Cameroon) Sent: Fri 6/12/15 2:34 AM
I have listened to 20 minutes of it, then I am told there is a connection error. But what I have heard so far is simply fantastic! Hope these MTN people will not spoil it for me again ... Dear all, I hope you have at least 30 minutes to spare to listen to what was a wonderful celebration of the life of one of Saker’s best pillars Ms Eunice Kern. She was such a strong force beneath the saker wings and although not a single Sakerette could manage to be at her funeral we were so ably represented in many ways so please click on the bottom below the floral tributes and follow the audio rendition of her funeral. And dear Egbe Mbiwan Monjimbo, I wonder how many hands and heads you have to do the things you do but you are a very blessed and rare gem. May God continue to water your pen and head mightily. Sister Ngowo Sent from my iPhone 5:09am Jun 12 Wow, you did justice to that tribute, Big sis. Ms Kern would have been proud. Very captivating especially being read by her niece - teary end piece as she relived the moment you lost your own mom! Well done … Thanks again for representing. Says Class of '69 Major, Dr. Stella Nwigwe Anyangwe as she remembers him: "As one of the College Singers, I can testify to the blessings that we all received from Rev Lysonge's poignant sermons. He was a fine gentleman. May his gentle soul rest in peace."
On her part, her Classmate and Co-Chorister, Major Christiana Ewusi Attere had this to say: "We thank God for Rev. Dr. Lysonge's rich life. We sang and he preached. We were lucky to be accompanied by such a powerful preacher. May God grant him eternal rest in heaven."
Upon learning of his passing, Dr. Elias Bongmba wrote the following: "I am so saddened to hear about the home going of Reverend Dr. Lysonge. We remember him fondly as a brilliant student and communicator of the word who served the Baptist Church in Cameroon with all his love and energy. His love for people led him to devote his life to care of souls and hearts, bringing guidance to the many who sought it through the public health system of Cameroon. He is at rest with his God and we will miss him." The 2 Excerpts below which are lifted from a 1969 NAB Bulletin and a September 22 1969 publication speak for themselves, attesting to the prominent role he played back in 1969:
And finally, here's an interesting quote from the Man Of God himself as recorded in the October 7 1969 Bismarck, North Dakota (ND) TRIBUNE
“Life goes pretty fast the way it is, but Americans try to make it go even faster. So fast, in fact, that they sometimes forget their fellow man. And that’s a bit of a contrast to life in Cameroon, Africa. My first and foremost reaction to the United States is that life is too fast, the Rev. Samuel Lysonge said." SakerPride is particularly saddened by Reverend Lysonge's untimely passing, given that he had been contacted and was willing to contribute a recording of his 1969-to-date experience as a Chaplain and as a Psychiatrist. May his soul rest in perfect peace!

Ma Henderson speaking at the 2011 ExSSA-USA Convention in Atlanta (08/05/2011 @ 11:05 p.m.) Standing to her right is Class of 1967's Late Aunty Christiana Chop Ngong. RIGHT: Pa George Henderson on Bota Island in the early 60s Photo Courtesy of erstwhile SBC Tutor Mr. Roger Hand who added this note when he shared it with SakerPride back in 2012: "George planted all the shrubs at SBC". He then went on to write the following: [Personal note: George is one of the most loving and inspirational people I have ever met]
We regret to announce the passing on to glory of Ma ALMA HENDERSON, a Baptist Missionary who, together with her Late husband, Pa George Henderson, worked at Saker Baptist College in its beginning years. In fact, Saker Baptist College's HENDERSON DORMITORY was thus named to honor them, which was a very well deserved gesture, given the fact that Mr. Henderson is credited with having helped build the school's Dining Hall and planting the shrubs and hedges SBC was and is still known for. She passed away on Wednesday December 16 2015. Her funeral service takes place on January 16 2016 in Athens GA. Right know she is at Bernstein Funeral Home, 3195 Atlanta Way, Athens, GA. We, SAKERETTES, are very grateful to her for her selfless service and sacrifice for which she will surely be rewarded by The One for whom she labored, and to Whom we commit her immortal soul for safekeeping until the trumpet sounds and the dead in Christ wake to sleep no more!
Here is an excerpt about the couple from the North American Baptist General Conference publication
"Now We Are 88"
which is posted on the "

George and Alma Henderson
"George, born 6 Dec 1918 in Alabama; Alma, born 19 March 1920 in Wisconsin. Both studied at Toccoa Falls, Alma graduating from the Missionary Flying School!!! They sailed for Cameroon in1947, and worked in evangelism in Victoria on their first tour of duty. Their second tour took them to Kumba. They will be returning soon to take up their work in Victoria where they will continue to witness for Christ."
Says PIONEER & First Senior Prefect, Aunty Barbara (Belinda) Ekiko about Late Ma Henderson: "Many people may not remember her, since she and her husband left Cameroon many years ago. For us the pioneers, she is the one who conducted the interviews for some of us to get us into Saker Baptist College, and she was our first music teacher. Many remember the Hendersons as Ma and Pa. The last time most people saw her after about 30 plus years was at the Atlanta Convention in 2011."
On her part, Class of 1968's Aunty Frida Kale Haussman had this to say : "Ma Alma taught my class to memorize Psalm 1! Never will forget how we walked up the KIE Village hill to put up the Small Baptist Church Building with Pappy Henderson (The Builder-Missionary). Rev. Steane Eko told us the stories. Oh Lord of Hosts, thank You for the Hendersons!"
